Once again, the Brantford Food Bank Christmas Baskets Program will be participating in the 40th annual JCI Brantford Santa Claus Parade this Saturday. Christmas Baskets staff and volunteers will be accepting non-perishable food donations for the Christmas Baskets program along the parade route.
This year, the Brantford Food Bank Christmas Baskets Program float has been sponsored by Pillers Fine Foods. Pillers employees will also be volunteering to collect food along the parade route.
The Christmas Baskets program provides Christmas dinner hampers and gifts for children to nearly 2,400 families each holiday season. For over 50 years, the Christmas Baskets program has relied on the generosity of the community to help those less fortunate.
Each year, hundreds of volunteers help pack and deliver food hampers, thousands of new and gently used toys, books and games are unwrapped by children on Christmas morning, and thousands of pounds of food are donated to provide a Christmas dinner for families in need. At the moment, over 600 families have registered for the Christmas Baskets program.
“We are pleased to be part of the JCI Brantford Santa Claus Parade again this year,” says Heather Vanner, Executive Director. “Last year 1,851 pounds of food were collected along the parade route. We hope to collect over 2,000 pounds of food this year, and want to remind everyone who attends the parade to bring along a food donation for us to collect.”
Nonperishable food items that are most needed by the Christmas Baskets program include stuffing mix, cranberry sauce, gravy, juice and canned vegetables.
If you or someone you know may need the support of this program, if you would like to volunteer your time, or would like to donate food or toys, please call the Christmas Baskets phone number at 519-751-0000 or email email@example.com.
